Word is spreading quietly among Malaysian parenting circles about an unusual film event where, for once, there’s genuinely something for every member of the family — and it costs just Rm 15 a ticket.
China-Malaysia Film Culture Festival, organised by LOMO Pictures in partnership with Shiguang Xingyu and VYBES, runs from 26 June to 5 July 2026 at GSC Mid Valley Megamall. At first glance, it reads like a typical film festival lineup. Look closer, though, and the programming reveals a surprisingly deliberate cross-generational structure.
According to the latest materials, the confirmed screening lineup includes Housekeeping?, Boonie Bears: Guardian Code, Kungfu Junior’s, A Writer’s Odyssey II, Dead To Rights, Successor, and Indera.
For the broader family audience, the festival’s headline opening film, “Kungfu Junior’s”, directed by Hong Kong’s Clifton Ko and starring Zhu Mimi and Yuan Teng, offers a more mainstream entry point — the kind of film that works whether you’re a longtime cinephile or just looking for a solid night out.
Beyond the screenings, the festival also hosts filmmaker dialogues and hands-on workshops for those interested in the industry side of things, meaning older teens or young adults curious about filmmaking have something to engage with too.
Festival founder Aron Koh, who chairs the 61st and 62nd Asia Pacific Film Festival organising committees, appears to have combined two goals into one event this year: broad family accessibility and genuine industry depth.
The latest event poster also highlights a short-drama cooperation angle. Dr. Kervis Soo is listed as a special guest, while LOMO Pictures, Shiguang Xingyu, VYBE and other partners are set to spotlight a new China-Malaysia short-drama cooperation ecosystem during the opening activities. The programme also points to the premiere screening of Kungfu Junior’s, cooperation signing, artist interaction and industry networking.
With ticket prices this low and a programme covering virtually every age group, the only real question left is which session to book first. 26 June to 5 July, GSC Mid Valley — mark the calendar.
