Having been all but written off a decade ago, the party has now stabilised at eight seats in Johor — four held and four newly won — and its president’s post-election remarks reflected a genuine sense of renewal. Wee Ka Siong pointed to the party’s victory in Layang-Layang by over 7,000 votes as evidence that MCA has reestablished cross-ethnic appeal.
For Perikatan Nasional, the Johor state election result 2026 was a stark reminder of the challenges facing the coalition outside its traditional strongholds. Having entered the election holding three Johor state seats, PN left without any, and its 33 contests produced no victories and few close calls. Parti Maju, contesting its first ever Johor state election across 15 seats, similarly made no inroads, reinforcing the difficulty facing new political entrants in a two-bloc landscape dominated by BN and PH.
