A family trip to Kuala Lumpur ended in tragedy on August 19, 2026, when three members of a Kampar, Perak family were killed after an Immigration Department lorry allegedly ran a red light along Jalan Sultan Ismail in the early hours of the morning. The fatal crash, which occurred at approximately 1am, has since prompted a police investigation and an internal probe by the Immigration Department.
Three Victims Identified, Mother Fighting for Life in ICU
The three family members killed in the Jalan Sultan Ismail crash have been officially identified by Kuala Lumpur Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa.
The victims are:
- Shaik Mohd Firdaus Shaikh Yahya, 53 — father
- Siti Nor Sazlin, 25 — eldest daughter present at the scene
- Siti Darwisyah Auni, 12 — youngest daughter
All three died at the scene of the crash.
The wife and mother, Norhayati Razali, 55, survived the impact but sustained serious injuries, including trauma to her head, right hand, and both legs. She is currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit at Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
A third daughter, Siti Nor Shakira, 28, was not present during the crash and was unharmed.
How the Crash Unfolded at the Maju Junction Intersection
The collision occurred at 1am at the Maju Junction traffic light intersection along Jalan Sultan Ismail. According to police, the Immigration Department lorry — driven by a 43-year-old man — allegedly ran a red light while its beacon lights and siren were activated.
The lorry first collided with a Proton Saga travelling through the intersection. The force of that initial impact caused the lorry to lose control, after which it struck four pedestrians — the Kampar family — who were at the roadside. The out-of-control vehicle then also hit an Inokom Matrix that had stopped at the traffic light.
The four family members were among the pedestrians struck in the multi-vehicle collision. Three died at the scene; Norhayati was rushed to hospital with severe injuries.
Immigration Department Responds as Investigation Gets Underway
Following the crash, Kuala Lumpur Immigration Department (JIMKL) director Hamsha Injau visited the HKL Forensic Medicine Institute to pay respects to the families of the deceased.
The case is currently being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which covers reckless and dangerous driving causing death.
The Immigration Department has also announced it will conduct a separate internal probe into the incident to determine whether proper procedures were followed by the lorry’s driver at the time of the collision.
Family Laid to Rest in Kampar
The three victims — Shaik Mohd Firdaus, Siti Nor Sazlin, and Siti Darwisyah Auni — were subsequently laid to rest in Kampar, Perak, the town they called home. Reports indicate that Norhayati’s mother shared a final farewell with her son and granddaughters before the burial, in what witnesses described as a deeply sorrowful moment for the extended family.
The crash has drawn widespread public attention to road safety concerns involving government vehicles operating with emergency signals, and to questions about driver accountability when such vehicles are involved in fatal accidents.
